There came a man 
who was sent from God; 
his name was John.

The Gospel of John is referring to the man named of John.
Later on it comes clear though, that this John here is not
identified with this Gospel's name of John. But there are 2 John's
involved here. It's good to keep in mind.
The "John" reference does indicate the connection with the tradition
and mission of the other John, which is the "John the Baptist."
